Hijri New Year Day-off for private sector on Thursday

Abu Dhabi - Oct 11th 2015 The Ministry of Labour has declared Thursday October 15, 2015 an official paid holiday for all private sector employees in the UAE to celebrate the coming Islamic Hijri New Year. This came following a statement issued by H.E. Saqr Ghobash, UAE Minister of Labour, according to provisions of Article 74 of the Federal Law No. 8 of 1980 concerning the regulation of labour relations and its amendments.
H.E the minister sent his kindest regards to His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and their Highnesses members of the Supreme Council, Rulers of the Emirates on this occasion.
His Excellency passed his regards to the people of the United Arab Emirates and residents congratulating them on the lovely occasion.

3 Days holiday for Eid Al Adha Labour Ministry announce.

Abu Dhabi – 15th Sept, 2015 The Ministry of Labour has declared Wednesday, September 23, 2015 and until Friday the 25th, an official paid holiday for all workers in the private sector to celebrate Eid al-Adha occasion. H.E Saqr Ghobash made the announcement following Article No. 74 of the Federal Law No. 8 of 1980 concerning labour relations, stating three days off for Eid Al Adha On this occasion, HE Minister of Labour Saqr Ghobash sent his sincere regards and blessings to His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan UAE President and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai and Their Highnesses Rulers of the Emirates. HE Minister of Labour Saqr Ghobash congratulated the people of the UAE and residents on this occasion, wishing the country further progress and prosperity then the Arab and Islamic nations more pride and glory.

Midday break rule ends tomorrow Sept 15th.

September 14th 2015 The UAE Ministry of Labour announced the midday break rule period, which started June 15th prohibiting any outdoor labour work between 12:30pm and 3pm, will end today, Tuesday September15th. Inspectional teams are on the field till the last minute of the annual rule to monitor the level of compliance witnessed by firms in the country. The mandatory annual midday work break which was implemented as per the directives of H.E Saqr Ghobash Minister of Labour, aims to ensure the well-being of the labourers who work in the scorching heat during the summer months from June15-September15. The implementation of the Afternoon Work Ban decision, which ran for 11 consecutive years now, has set daily working hours to 8 maximum alternated between day and night shifts, according to the provisions of the Federal law No. 8 of 1980 on the organization of labour relations ‘additional work is compensated.’ The midday ruling came in line with the integrated policies and initiatives of the labour market to ensure interests of both the production sides as to protect workers from blistering sun heat, being important partners in the production and development process, and to better serve human and labour rights interests.

First and Second of Shawal announced Eid holiday for private sector workers in UAE.

Ministry of Labour 12 July /2015 The UAE Ministry of Labour has declared that Eid Al Fitr holiday for all private sector employees will begin on the first and second days of Shawwal and will resume work on the third of Shawwal of the year 1436 AH. The announcement was based on the provisions of Article 74 of the Federal Law No. 8 of 1980 concerning the regulation of labour relations, as amended, which determines holidays to the private sector such as Eid al-Fitr. Labour Ministry notes 99.88% compliance for the midday break rule

Ministry of Labour – Dubai – July 08th, 2015 Statistically speaking, the Ministry of Labour has recorded a whopping 99.88 per cent level of compliance for the midday break decision since the implementation date till June 30th last week. Records were gathered from 10,430 visited firms across the UAE, stated Maher Al-Obed, Assistant Undersecretary for Inspectional Affairs, pointing out that only 11 firms violated the laws, particularly 0.12 per cent. “Workers must be supplied with water, healthy salts and lemon, which is approved for use by health authorities in the country. They must provide first aid kits on site in addition to protective umbrellas.

Ministry of Labour starts issuing administrative fines for labour offences

The Ministry of Labour has started issuing 23 administrative fines for labour offences on employers as well as recruitment agencies, as per the Cabinet’s decision.Employers now have 60 days to renew work permits from the expiry date or issue a new work permit from the date an employee enters the UAE or for the adjustment of the employee’s status. A 60-day period is granted to labour contracts that should be submitted to the Ministry of Labour failing which a fine of AED 500 will be imposed. Firms will be fined a AED 100 per day in case of delay for not issuing a special task work permit and are required to submit it to the ministry within 30 days from a labourer’s entry date and not renewing their labour cards after 7 days from the expiry date.
